Nicetravel · Reykjavík, pickup included

Two days, less rushing

A two-day minibus tour from Reykjavík along the South Coast, with a night in a countryside hotel and the glacier lagoon on day two. Pick it if a 14-hour day trip sounds like too much driving for one go.

2-Day South Coast with Icebergs & Glaciers

About this experience

Day one runs the waterfalls and the black beach: Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi in its gorge, Skógafoss, then Reynisfjara with its basalt columns. You sleep in a double or twin room with an ensuite bathroom, breakfast included. Day two is the lagoon day. You reach Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach, then turn back west past the turf church at Hof and the Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon to Reykjavík. Guests say the second day is the long one in the car.

What happens on the water depends on what you book. The amphibious boat tour on Jökulsárlón is an option on this listing, not part of the base price. Select it when you book and the ride is arranged for you; skip it and you see the icebergs from the shore, which is free. The lagoon's own boats belong to its boat operator (Jökulsárlón ehf / Glacier Lagoon): amphibian tours run from May to about mid-November and Zodiac tours from May to the end of October, weather and ice permitting (operator's 2026 schedule). On the same principle there is an optional glacier hike of about two hours on day one, with safety gear provided.

The minimum age is 10 and the tour is not suitable for wheelchair users. Lunch and dinner are not included: the guide stops where you can buy them. Large bags and luggage are not allowed, so pack one small overnight bag. Travellers mention a 19-seat minibus, Wi-Fi and USB chargers on board. Bring waterproof layers: the spray at the waterfalls soaks you, and the lagoon is cold even in summer.

  • Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach on day two, after a night in the south
  • The amphibian boat ride among the icebergs, if you add it in season
  • Seljalandsfoss, Gljúfrabúi and Skógafoss on the way out
  • Reynisfjara black sand beach and its basalt columns
  • The Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon and the turf church at Hof on the way back

What guests say

★★★★★

This tour was the highlight of our trip! A great way to see the beauty of Iceland without renting a car. Our guide, Jonas, was such a delight. [...] The mini bus was nice, a 19-seater. Be sure to bring waterproof gear for the waterfalls! And definitely do the glacier lagoon and hike if you have the option -- those were both highlights for us.

[...] The hotel they booked for us (Hótel Smyrlabjörg) was clean, cozy, and quiet with water views in the distance. We chose to add on the glacier hike and glacier lagoon boat ride to our tour, and both were amazing. [...]

The tour was incredibly beautiful and exceeded all our expectations. Mika was very knowledgeable, timed all the stops perfectly, and accommodated all our requests (even with an extra stop so we could see puffins).

Tips before you book

  • Select the boat option when you book. It is the only way the boat ride comes with this tour.
  • Pack one small bag for the night. Luggage and large bags are not allowed on the bus.
  • Wear your own hiking boots if you add the glacier hike; a guest who rented crampons said boots of your own work best.
  • Budget for two lunches and a dinner, bought at the stops.
  • Book before mid-November if the boat matters to you: the amphibian season ends then, weather and ice permitting (operator's 2026 schedule).
