Live-guided coach tour · Djúpivogur cruise terminal
A seven-hour coach excursion from the cruise terminal in Djúpivogur to Jökulsárlón and Diamond Beach, with a live guide and a photo stop at Hvalnes on the way back. Pick it if your ship calls at Djúpivogur and the lagoon is the one thing you want to see in East Iceland.

The coach picks you up at the cruise terminal and follows the coast south-west with Vatnajökull on your right. Jökulsárlón comes first, then Diamond Beach (Fellsfjara) across the road. On the way back you stop on the Hvalnes peninsula below the horn-shaped Eystrahorn mountain. The tour is scheduled to the docking times of the ships in port, and guests say it starts and ends on time.
Be clear about the clock. Guests put the drive at around two hours each way, so out of seven hours most go to the road and the stop at the lagoon is short. No boat ride is listed on this excursion: you see the icebergs from the shore and walk among the ice on the beach. Diamond Beach is about 500 m from the lagoon, a few minutes' walk on the path under the bridge. Keep back from the waterline and never climb onto the ice: waves can move the blocks and the water is ice cold.
Meals and drinks are not included, and one guest noted few places to eat or use a restroom along the way, so carry snacks and water from the ship. Wi-Fi is on board. Children under 2 cannot join. Sit on the left side of the coach for light on your photos both ways, one guest advises. Bring comfortable shoes and clothes for wind and rain.
Pickup at the terminal, at a time set to your ship's docking.
The coach heads south-west with Vatnajökull in view and the sea on the other side.
Icebergs on the lagoon, seen from the shore. No boat ride is listed.
Ice on the black sand across the road. Stay back from the waves.
A photo stop below Eystrahorn, then Djúpivogur with time to spare before departure.
★★★★★It's a long 2-hour drive to get to the glacier lagoon, but the nature is beautiful along the way. We were on the left side of the coach, so you have the right daylight for photos both ways. The glaciers and the ice are beautiful. [...] The live guide kept a close eye on the time so that we were back at the cruise port on time.
★★★★★Saga, our guide made this a great outing. It’s a long drive to the glacier lagoon and she kept us entertained with Iceland history and fun facts. [...] We really enjoyed the Glacier Lagoon and the Diamond beach was fascinating! [...]
★★★★★[...] Best part, of course, was viewing the chunks of glacial ice that traveled down the runoff, and either stayed in the lagoon or floating to black sand beach and the ocean! Wish I could have stayed longer! Those ice bergs really did glitter like diamonds in the black sand!
